In addition to dispensing medicines that cure illnesses and improve health, pharmacists provide education about medicines, help people manage and adhere to complex regimens, ensure drug safety, avert dangerous drug interactions, prevent overmedication, offer immunizations and screenings, advocate for access to medications and provide extensive health resources and educational services to the public. The practice of pharmacy involves so much more than merely counting pills.

Furthermore, these services are offered in community pharmacies, clinics, hospitals and nursing homes nationwide. In fact, 92 percent of Americans live within five miles of a community pharmacy, according to the National Community Pharmacists Association. Pharmacists do not require an appointment. Many pharmacies are open on evenings, weekends and holidays. Some are even open 24 hours a day.

No other health care provider offers this level of accessibility. As such, pharmacists must be recognized for the significant contributions they make to their communities, to the public’s health and to the entire health care system.

Medtipster, the company behind the new online healthcare search engine and price comparator Medtipster.com, is proud to announce the appointment of Jason A. Klein as the company’s president. Klein joined Medtipster in July 2009.

In his role, Klein is responsible for the management of all of Medtipster’s daily operations, and reports to the Board of Directors. Additionally, he oversees the strategic direction for both sales and marketing at Medtipster, and is a member of the company’s management committee.

Prior to joining Medtipster, Klein worked at CVS Caremark, one of the nation’s largest pharmacy benefit managers, for nearly 10 years. There, he served in positions ranging from Sales Manager to Regional Vice President. Previously Klein was the Manager of Consultant Sales for SelectCare.

Klein also has over 15 years experience in political and legislative positions. He served as the Legislative Chairman for the Metro Detroit Association of Health Underwriters (MDAHU) and held various positions within the Self Insured Institute of America (SIIA). Klein was also a Legislative Aide to former State Representative Jan C. Dolan.

Klein graduated from James Madison College at Michigan State University with a B.A. in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy. He holds a wide range of industry licenses and was honored in Crain’s Detroit Business as a member of Michigan’s “Who’s Who In HealthCare.” Klein was born and raised in Oakland County, Mich. where he currently resides with his wife, a practicing pediatrician, and his two sons.
